For a change....

The delay in updating this blog was because I had the priviledge of visiting Taipei for work. A busy busy city. So for a change and moving away from baked goods for a while, some amateur shots of the places I visited.

Lemon Meringue Pie

A hit with my female colleagues. Went for a class to learn how to make proper lemon meringue pie, this turned out beautiful. Will definitely make this again.

Eva's Full Moon

A cute little bub's full moon. The cupcakes were done according to the theme of the nursery. I was told that the nursery items were only available in the states or was it UK. Anyway, they were whimsical and unconventional. Love the ideas!

Ice Cream Cookies

I had acquired a new ice cream cone cookie cutter. Also had some additional sugar cookie dough and icing. So decided to play around with it. Oh so cute!

Spongebob Squarepants

Gosh! was this hard to do. I was always under the impression that spongebob would be one of the easiest characters to make but no no no no. Especially when it is so small to fit medium cupcakes. I can say that I am pretty happy with how they turned out but of course can be improved with time.

Wedding cupcakes - peach and white

I made this last night and was planning on taking loads of pictures from different angles ( because I think they are so sweet!) but plans were foiled when my camera battery died on me and as I was rushing, could not find my charger. The white sugarpaste is imprinted with filigree like patterns but did not catch it with my dead camera.Argh!!! hopefully I would be able to get more pictures from the bride herself.

Graduation Cookies

A move away from the traditional black, I was asked to make cheery coloured mortar board for a graduation function. All fun!

Ribbons and Bows

Finally embarked on making some sugarpaste bows for birthday cakes. was initially going to do the loopy ones but decided that these bows are way more whimsical. Although not entirely perfect, was very happy with the whimsy it brings to normal cakes.

Birthday Cake for Grandma

A request for a pastel-ly coloured cake for grandma's birthday. Simple and so laura ashley!

Deepavali

Deepavali was a few days of baking frenzy. I made quite a number of loaf cakes during that period.... did not have the time to post them. Hope all had a good time on Saturday, many people around my neighbourhood certainly did with fireworks going off till the wee hours of the morning. was not complaining in fact, kinda enjoyed it.

Candy Cupcakes

I was asked to make some cupcakes with the theme colours being light pink and light orange. The colours just scream out to me "Candy!" Pale and lovely.

A request for a slightly more elaborate barney cake from the ones I usually make. 3D wordings and the number 2. Happy Birthday Darren!

Chocolate Orange Cupcakes

There were plenty of requests for me to come up with some chocolate orange cupcakes. Never knew that this pairing would be so popular, only remember it from Jaffa Cakes in the UK. Well found a recipe which I thought I should try and these came out looking beautiful, the chocolate icing is definitely a keeper, light and luscious, the cake definitely had the chocolate orange element but still needs to be improved on. So watch this space. More to come!

Branded Cupcakes

I approached these cupcakes with caution. Replicating famous brands are really quite a challenge especially if one is not using one of the printed icing sheets. I am satisfied with the way the brand logos came out. Hope the birthday girl likes them!

Happy Birthday to Me!

It has been a very happening birthday this year, usually it is pretty low key but today, there were so many surprises, from surprise birthday lunch which was great fun with my colleagues and some nice nice gifts. Dinner tonight with hubby. Anyways, it was business as usual as far as cake baking is concerned. Took the opportunity to pass some cuppies to a colleague who also celebrates her birthday today. Happy birthday Iza!

Was trying really hard to get the colour of the roses, they are a deep deep red which most of the time does not come out in the photos. Well I tried lah....

Pandan Chiffon

Had a craving for simple pandan chiffon yesterday so decided to just make one at home as opposed to buying it from random places. Don't like the ones with garish green colouring and a lot of commercial pandan chiffon lack the fragrance of pandan. Homemade always better.

I recalled it was about 11pm after Naddy's farewell dinner that I started extracting pandan juice. I decided to be ambitious and make 2 cakes instead, not allowing the pandan juice to go to waste. The first one, as pictured above came out as soft as clouds. Incredibly fragrant and so comforting when eaten. The second one.....hopes of blessing someone with it today were dashed as it totally collapsed on me because it was undercooked. At 1230am, my oven timer rang and I thought hmmm looks cooked enough only to be dissapointed this morning. Never bake when in a bad mood or when sleepy.

Will definitely make again, hands up Pandan Chiffon fans, who knows one might come your way soon enough.

Bye Bye Blackbird!

Some farewell cupcakes for a friend who is making her way to the UK to do yet another masters. Each design symbolises something, hope she is able to figure it out and have a laugh!
