This is why baking is so interesting. This time round a friend requested for a portrait of a real cat on top of the chocolate cake. I toyed with numerous ideas to design the cat. I know for sure ( through numerous disastrous attempts) that you can't have royal icing ( which is my usual material for design) will melt on this liquid chocolate coating on the cake and so will fondant. So timing was perfect that I bought the latest book by the same authors of the "Whimsical Bakehouse" and decided to cast the image on chocolate. It was quite tricky given that I do not have a chocolate warmer. But am happy with the results given it was my first time.
